So sunscreen is very much essential before going out in the sun.
The main purpose of sunscreen is to protect the skin from the harmful rays of the sun. Coconut Oil is one of few natural ingredients which can work as a sunscreen. Coconut Oil has 4-6 SPF (Sun Protection factor) which can effectively block the harmful rays upto 20 percent.
Ingredients from Coconut Oil can save the skin from sunburn. Coconut Oil can mix with other natural ingredients and act as a sunscreen. For example, Jojoba oil, sunflower oil, citrus fruits etc. can blend with Coconut Oil and can protect skin from UV rays and at the same time ensure moisturization.
However, some experts suggest that Coconut Oil and other natural ingredients cannot replace the traditional sunscreen. American Academy of Dermatology recommends using sunscreen that’s SPF 30 or higher, water-resistant, and protective against both UVA and UVB rays. SPF 30 blocks upto 97 percent of the sun’s UVB rays, and higher SPF products block slightly more UVB rays.
However, coconut Oil can be used as a good moisturizer after spending time in the sun. It’s full of nourishing fats that keep your skin smooth and hydrated and works great to add some moisture to your skin after spending time outdoors. In a nutshell, Coconut Oil does have some sun blocking agents. But it’s always safe to mix it with other powerful SPF products for better results.
