When summer exits with its scorching heat, naturally, we all look forward to the rejuvenation of monsoon. But like every other season, monsoon also comes with its fair share of disadvantages. The rise in humidity makes your skin to be sticky that may sometimes result in rashes or skin itching in rainy season. Hence, to cope with the changing weather, you need to develop a monsoon skin care routine. So, if you’d like to know about monsoon skin care, stay tuned with us.

Skin Care During Monsoon

  1. Wash Your Face: You should make sure that your skin doesn’t accumulate grime or dirt from your surroundings. So, you need to wash your face two to three times a day.

Just washing with plain water won’t help. You must use a good quality soap-free cleanser based on your skin type.

  • Monsoon skin care for oily skin demands an oil cleanser.
  • The ones with dry skin will need a gentle cleanser.
  • If you have sensitive or acne-prone skin, buy a cleanser that has salicylic acid in it.

  1. Use a Toner: Yes, you must cling to the basics, even as part of your monsoon skin care routine. Toning is essential after cleansing to wipe away any residue of dirt.

It also helps your skin to absorb any other product better. It’s recommended to go for a toner that has natural ingredients lemon juice, green tea, cucumber water, rose water, or chamomile tea.

  1. Don’t Neglect Moisturising: Your skin sure feels sticky in monsoon. But you know what will make it stickier? Skipping the moisturiser.

Moisturising is a vital step of skin care in rainy season. It keeps your skin supple and hydrated.

  • Consider using coconut oil on face as a moisturiser, if you have dry skin
  • Otherwise, opt for lightweight products that have cucumber, hemp seed oil and olive oil in them.

  1. Stay Hydrated: Hydration is a crucial part of skin care in rainy season. Only hydrarting your skin isnt enough. You have to hydrate your body from within.
  • Drink at least eight glasses of water everyday
  • To increase your water intake, eat fresh fruits and vegetables.

  1. Block UV rays: Even on the days, sun is hidden behind those gloomy clouds, you need to shield your face with sunscreen. Rainy season skin care is incomplete without sunscreen. The reason? Well, the sun may not be shinning fiercely, but its harmful UV rays are  present.
  • Always wear a spf 50 sunscreen if you have to step out during the day
  • Reapply it every three to four hours if you have to stay outdoors for longer hours
  • Use a mattifying and waterproof sunscreen

  1. Exfoliate Your Skin: You must make way for the newer layer of skin to be revealed. For that, you need to slough off dead skin cells. So, exfoliate two to three times a week as part of monsoon skin care. It’ll unclog your poes and make it look dewy.
  • You can easily prepare homemade exfoliators with grounded coffee, sugar, tea bag, papaya, oatmeal or yogurt
  • Add some coconut oil to your exfoliator to simultaneously moisturise your skin
  • Be gentle as you rub the exfoliator on your face. You don’t want to cause any tear

  1. Coconut Oil as a Body Lotion: Excessive humidity can make your skin feel dry that may result in itching. To tackle body itching in rainy season, moisturise your body with coconut oil. If you have Eczema, you may try mixing some salt with coconut oil.

  1. DIY Facepacks: There’s no alternative to facepack for radiant skin. You should use  facepacks in monsoon that will help in oil control. Fullers earth or multani mitti is one of the best choices for rainy season skin care. With some simple ingredients, you can easily make a clay mask at home:

Ingredients:

  • Fuller’s earth
  • Rose water
  • Sandalwood powder
  • Neem paste

Procedure:

  • Take equal parts of fuller’s earth, sandalwood powder and neem paste
  • Add 2 tsps of rose water in it and mix the ingredients well until formed into a thick paste
  • If they don’t blend well or the consistency seems too thick, add some more rose water
  • Apply the mixture generously to your face
  • Leave it on until its dry
  • Wash your face with cool water

Monsoon is a season of rejuvenation. But the sudden rise in humidity affects our skin. So, you must update your regular beauty regimen and switch to a monsoon skincare routine. If you persistently follow these tips and tricks, monsoon air will only soothe your soul without leaving its adverse effect on your skin.
